9:33AM - SDCC 2008 Day 01 & 02

And here we go again. Same gig as last year. Im down in Whale's Vagina San Diego for the comicon. It's not nearly as hot and humid as it has been the previous two years, which is very nice.

Still have no chance in getting into the Hasbro Shop booth. Although I did get one step closer this year than previous years. I got a ticket to wait in line.

If anyone is in the area and would like to meet up, possibly for a late dinner or something, I would totally be down. I'll be in panels all day today and hopefully will see a screening of Tropic Thunder tonight. Tomorrow, I have no idea since I havent even looked at the schedule yet.

Regardless, I know you just want the juicy photos.

12:20PM - Paper flowers

My favorite book in the world is Flowers in the Attic by VC Andrews, and I'm thinking of getting a tattoo based on it. Specifically, paper flowers. If you haven't read the book: a mother locks her four children in a single bedroom in her wealthy parents' mansion, in order to hide their existence from her dying father so that she can inherit his fortune. The children have the attic as their playground, and they decorate it with paper flowers so that they have a garden while they're locked inside.

I really like how flower tattoos look without a black outline, like this one, so I definitely want to do it in that style. (I remember seeing someone post a tattoo of theirs that was similar, and I absolutely loved it. It was pink cherry blossoms with gray stems and I'm pretty sure it was on the front of their shoulder. If that person's still around, I'd really love to see it again for inspiration!) Another idea I had was to give the flowers a "threaded" outline... sort of like this (pardon my shitty drawing). Also, I don't want the flowers to look entirely realistic, but not too cartoony, either.

If anyone has any ideas, please throw them at me! Pictures of a similar style, or one you think might work, would be great as well. I'm at the early stages of planning so I'd like to see as many different things as I can to take into consideration. Thanks!

12:31AM - New

Hi, I'm Danielle. I'm a 22 year old New Yorker living in GA. Music is my biggest passion. Here's my list :)

7:50PM - My list.

My list. I'd love for people to follow my progress. This is actually my second list and while I did not finish the first one it helped me to realize my goals and aspirations at the time. Since then the focus of my endeavors  have changed somewhat and so I have started anew.

Hygher 101 list!

10:32PM

so, i've had this idea for quite some time, but i'm lost on where exactly to put it.

the quote And death i think is no parenthesis by cummings has been meaningful in my life, as the entire poem has been. essentially the end for me sums up that poem and i'm attached to the entire quote.

however parenthesis themselves; ( ) have also been part of my idea, but i have no idea how to incorporate them.

i've been debating whether i wanted a bracket on each of the tops of my feet, or whether to get one and someone i know get the other. however, attaching myself to someone (even if they are simply brackets) has not been as appealing.

the quote however, if i wanted it with the brackets would be too long for my feet and be awkward separated. i was considering it on the inside of my right forearm, as it is completely bare and ideal space.

but i have no idea if i want to use; (And death i think is no parenthesis... and leave it without a bracket, and possibly drop the ellipsis. using only one bracket at the beginning also encompasses the meaning of the poem for me, but (And death i think is no parenthesis) is also a viable option.

font-wise, i'm pretty set. i'm either using times new roman or a typewriter (possibly mine, if it can be done) font.

and for your trouble. )

8:37PM - finished product!

12:09AM - to kill a mockingbird

does anyone have a quote from To Kill A Mockingbird tattoo?
the only post tagged is of scout in a tyre.
i'm interested in others because i've found that the book isn't exactly full of SHORT memorable quotes.

i'm thinking of getting 'BUT REMEMBER IT'S A SIN TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD"

not 100% sure on placement and font, wrist maybe with typewriter font?
it would be my first tattoo and i don't want to regret it so someone else's opinion would be nice.
thanks.

4:33PM - graphic novels, yo.

Hey, I was wondering if anyone has any tattoos inspired or taken directly from a graphic novel? I am a huge graphic novel geek and plan on getting a tattoo from either "The Blot" or "Blankets" and am interested in seeing other people's work. I can't wait to get mine done!

1:26PM - update

No huge updates for me this month, well actually.. kinda/sorta..

I am in the midst of completing goal #001 - Visit California, specifically San Diego. I am here in sunny San Diego as I type this on a MUCH needed vacation! Yeah!! I've wanted to visit this city for TEN YEARS and I am finally here! Yay! I never want to leave, either. Actually I'm applying for a job out here, so maybe I won't even have to, hah!

The other big news is a goal that's still in progress. Goal #043 - lose 50lbs. I have now been training at the gym 6 days/week for six months (six months as of 17th July), and as of now I have lost 43lbs, and over 12% body fat! I've gained 15 - 20lbs of muscle, and I feel AMAZING! When I complete this goal, and some of my other fitness goals, I'll likely put up a before and after photo, just for shits and giggles.

I broke 40lbs. I can't believe it. I think, back when I started this training regime, that I didn't really believe I would actually lose the weight, get in shape, become healthy. And now here I am! I feel so amazing! Mentally as well as physically.

July hasn't been a great month, as far as my 101 list, in terms of getting a lot of things completed, but it's been a HELL of a month for my list and my self all the same! Quality, not quantity this month!

10:50AM - weekly update no.1

This is my first weekly update!!  I technically updated mid-week, but that was (1) because I completed a goal and (2) I wanted to get myself in the habit of thinking about updating.  so this is the first office weekly update...

I'm also welcoming 101 friends with similar interests and goals -- I have a community where I post my updates, and/or would be willing to friend you on my personal journal... let me know!

I have a few in progress:

1. read 50 books per year (can include school assigned, but not textbooks)

I am currently reading The Man Who Ate a 747 by Ben Sherwood.  It's cute, and I'm enjoying it so far.  I'm also about to start the second Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants book, as well as the Dark Knight comics (they totally count as books!)... I absolutely love library sharing programs, btw.  What a great resource!!

10. get rid of 101 items by May 2009. [1/101]

I threw out a shirt the other day...  it wasn't very nice/in good condition/worth free boxing.

22. maintain year-long relationships with ten penpals by the end of 2009.

I've written to six girls, am waiting for one two write, and have to write two more -- so we're on the road to ten pen friends!  I'm hoping the relationships work out :]

28. overhaul LJ tagging system
Every couple of days at the circ desk I delete another ten or twenty tags... or go through a months' worth of entries and clean them up a bit.  I can't believe I've let it go so long, though.  It's really going to take me forever...  but it's also kind of fun.  I'm re-reading entries from years ago, and they make me laugh a bit.

31. peruse 1000 Places..., mark off what's been done, what's to re-do, and what's to do
I ordered the book 1000 Places to See Before You Die via ConnectNY and have just started flipping through the pages.  I've started with the United States of America (just because I'm sure I won't be travelling out of country for at least a year or so, and another goal of mine is to see a couple of the places I've bookmarked) and so far, I want to go --almost-- everywhere.

33. collect 50 non-drink recipes and try at least half
I've gotten a lot of cupcakes recipes and some dinner ideas (unofficial count is 19), but I won't really get a chance to try them until I move into senior housing in about a month.

62.  start that blog I keep on planning on starting
I've joined </a></b></a>[info]loverslane  as a staffer.  this isn't my blog, but it is blog-style writing, so it's getting me on track for that!  :]  and my first entry was on Mission 101 and tips for writing an easy-to-stick-to list.  It went over really well, and many people said they'd start a list because of my heads up.  Join the community and see what the rest of the girls have to offer as well!!

72. lose 20 pounds.
Theoretically, I've been working on this one all summer.  I've already lost 6 pounds, but am not including that in this goal... unless it becomes obvious after awhile that I can't (i.e., I've lost fat but gained muscle, which weighs much more than fat).  The "real" goal behind the number is to be able to fit into my older clothing, and I *think* losing 20 pounds will get me there.

11:41PM - finally posting

Hi all! I've been part of the community for a few weeks, but just got around to posting. Since I am posting one that isn't literary based (for [info]istand)I am also including a picture of my friend's Neverending Story tattoo. Because you can never have too many literary tattoos, right? ;0)

Tolkien, RENT and more )

I have plans for more literary tattoos also. I would love to get something from either The Halloween Tree or Fahrenheit 451 but there are a million others as well! Hope you all enjoyed this little show and tell and hopefully I can share more when I get the money to afford getting them!
